Cloud of India
India has now become the world's largest Digital Economy. India experienced a new world record in Digital transactions in the month of Jan 2023 by making 8 Billion UPI transactions in a single month, valuing 13 Lakh crore rupees. As we continue to improve our digital power, India has started to experience strong resistance from Digital enemies. Less than a decade back, we knew of a handful of real enemies. Our defence forces could prepare a plan to deal with the real ene mies. Do we have the same enemies now, or are we dealing with a completely different set of challenges?
If our enemies have changed, so have our friends changed. In the modern digital world, nothing will last forever. The digital world is changing all the time, and the only thing that's going to last forever is the sovereignty of India. India is heading in the direction of becoming the No.1 country in the world in terms of Data Center capacity. We are expected to cross a 3-Gigawatt DC capacity in India by 2028, but to become the Cloud superpower of the world it will take some more time.
Start your digital journey with India’s very own Cloud! As the digital Economy accelerates in India, there are four crucial concerns about seamless data flow. These are as follows:
The Indian Government and other autonomous organizations have passed numerous laws, many of which are sector-specific and restrict free data transmission under certain circumstances, to address the issues mentioned above. For instance, the Reserve Bank of India mandates that all payment information be kept on Indian soil. To be processed outside, though, is possible. The telecom sector has also been the subject of sector-specific legislation. The law prohibits the transfer of subscriber account information and mandates the local processing and storage of subscriber information. Table 1 below lists a few of the sector-specific localization regulations already in place.
Sr. No. | ACT/ INITIATIVE | IMPLEMENTATION YEAR | MANDATE |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Public Records Act | 1993 | Any "public records" cannot be transferred outside the country. |
2 | Information Technology | 2000 and 2011 | Body corporates are prohibited from transferring sensitive personal data outside the country. |
3 | Unified Access License for Telecom Service Providers | 2004 | Information about subscribers must be stored and processed locally, and user and accounting information cannot be transferred. |
4 | Companies Act | 2013 | Ensures that Indian companies' books of accounts (including electronic books and papers) are kept on site. |
5 | MeghRaj Initiative | 2014 | It stipulates that all cloud service providers who are impanelled must store "both physical and virtual hardware" in India. |
6 | Reserve Bank of India, Storage of Payment System data | 2018 and 2019 | A clarification issued in June 2019 mentions that the data may be processed abroad, but the final copies will be stored in India. |
The table presented above indicates the Government's strong commitment to data localization. While we may not see drastic changes in this regard, it is likely that India will gradually move towards ensuring greater protection of its citizens' data within the country's borders.
ESDS was the first company in India to introduce Cloud Computing for the nation on its Cloud was built from the ground up using ESDS' patented vertical autoscaling technology while the world was still focusing on horizontal scaling. Vertical autoscaling technology helped optimize cloud resources by more than 50%.
While none of the legacy systems could directly run on the Cloud as they were not designed to be Cloud ready, eNlight Cloud, due to its intrinsic nature of scaling vertically, took away that barrier and helped all legacy systems to reap the benefits of cloud computing without any changes in their system.
The Cloud of India eNlight helped its customers save more than 50% of costs as its billing model followed the ethics of the "pay-per-consumption" model rather than the "pay-per-use" model.
ESDS also introduced a dedicated Cloud for Bank' BFSI Community Cloud'. And we take pride in stating that 400+ cooperative banks that are the unsung heroes of our rural Economy run their core banking, disaster recovery, and other fintech services from ESDS data centers powered by eNlight Cloud.
ESDS never believed in doing analytics on data to make sure that customers host with peace of mind that their data is really secure. ESDS went a step ahead and allowed customers to bring their own encryption to be used, thereby providing another level of comfort for systems with critical data such as data of revenue departments or Land records, to name a few.
ESDS pioneered the concept of community clouds in India and architected them based on different types of customers. ESDS realized that each set of the industry has its own ask of regulatory compliance, and just having a public cloud will not serve the purpose. To assist the manufacturers as they form part of the "Make in India" initiative, ESDS set up SAP HANA community cloud powered by eNlight, the Cloud of India.
