    Default How Many Firewalls?

If I understand correctly, my router has a firewall built in it. Then there is another firewall by the operating system that I'm using. Is this enough to protect my computer from hackers or do I need another paid firewall?

Are you talking about your personal PC or are you talking about your server. You should have a software firewall, a firewall appliance and then several security measures.

    Thanks for the link.

To answer WhytwoKay, I'm referring to my PC in my original post. Now that I read the link that kalpak.attarde posted, I think my inquiry can include servers as well.

Having a hardware firewall is surely the best way to protect servers. I don't know if we need to use it on personal computers.

    Hello Jonash,

You can use it for your personal computer also but software firewall best suited for single PC, because of Cost.

But if you are including Server also, it means their client PC should be there, am I right ?
In this situation hardware firewall is best-suited,because your network is larger now.

In my opinion , you should have a firewall on your local machine.

When you surf the Internet, that can pose dangers to unwary computer users.

And if you have a firewall installed on your local machine, that would avoid any kind of risk.

Having a firewall on your system is nothing but you are surfing the net in secure way.

Your computer's security could also be tightened by keeping your software up to date, using latest anti-virus software, and using antispyware software.

There are two types of firewall

    1) Software Firewall
    2) Hardware Firewall

When you are using a local system software firewall is best and if you are running server then hardware firewall is best because it has more robust and advanced technology to protect server from hackers and also there are setting enable in it to deny unwanted traffic.

    Default Where to use firewall.

Software is ok for personal PC. But Hardware firewall is must in case of company network. Lots of attacks may be there on a company network or a company does not want that there should be any communication with invalid users or Blacklisted IP addresses.

According to company policies company may have restriction of internet usage. Some times there are confidential details which are store in company servers, with such servers few numbers of user are allowed. In such cases it use hardware firewall.

    In second case: in Datacenter.
    Datacenter has servers.
Here server owner decides who can use my server. Lots of important applications might be running on server. If any hacker attacks on server, he can interrupt applications. This turns a big loss for company. In such case even for a single server there should be strngly configured Hardware firewall.
